—————————————-

Oberon is a sweet and gentle Shih-poo with a most unusual hairstyle. His eyes are almost completely concealed by hair, but he can see just fine.

He lives in the picturesque highland town of Dorrigo,NSW, that showcases a beautiful display of colours when the leaves fall in Autumn.

As black dogs are difficult to photograph, I went to meet Oberon and his family and took lots of photos of his lovely shiny coat. They had an idea of what they wanted as far as how Oberon would be standing. Do you think he wanted to co-operate? Um, no! But we gently encouraged him to stand in a way that showcased his curly tail and sweet smile. (This pic is how Oberon wanted to pose for his custom portrait)

The digital mock-up

My client requested Oberon to have Autumn leaves in the foreground of his custom portrait. His mustache has subtle golden tones and the leaves would echo that tone.

In the digital mock-up, I played around with colours and composition to get a basic guide for the painting.

Here’s some work in progress shots where I blocked in planes of colour.

I painted the entire painting in acrylics for this one

So with a few layers of paint - voila here it is!

And the best thing is that it will be ready to varnish in a couple of days.
